Wm. Silliman, 90 Dies in Colorado

Services for William J. Silliman were held in the Methodist Church of Towner, Colorado, July 27, 1972 at 2:30 p.m. with Rev. Wilbur Rothfuss.

William J. Silliman was born December 1, 1881 on a farm near Peru to Charles D. and Mary Moore Silliman, the second son of a family of eight. He died at Prowers Medical Center, Lamar, Colo., on July 23, 1972 at the age of 90 years.

"Bill" received his education at a country school near Peru, and was engaged in farming with his father until 1906 when he went to Colorado and filed on a homestead 5 miles North of Towner, Colo.

On March 12, 1907 he married Pearl Ford at Winterset and in mid-April they came to Towner to begin married life on the Eastern Colorado Plains. The couple celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary with a family gathering on June 4, 1972.

In 1948, they moved to Paris, Arkansas, still engaged in farming. In 1960 they returned to Colorado, making their home at Holly.

To this union was born eight children, four of whom preceded him in death. Surviving are his wife; Mary of the home; and children: Eileen Roe, Lamar, Colo., Mrs. Vyrle Hendricks, Winterset, William E. Silliman, Grand Junction, Colo., and W. Jay Silliman living on the family homestead north of Towner. One brother, Lonnie Silliman, Winterset, a sister, Mrs. Pearl Emerson, Winterset; 18 grandchildren and 28 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, 3 brothers and 2 sisters.
