Death of Rev. H. C. Short Occurred Thursday After Brief Illness

The Rev. Henry C. Short, pastor of Grace Baptist church in Winterset for almost two years, died Thursday, May 9, at Memorial hospital in Winterset after a brief illness. He was 58 years of age.

The Rev. Mr. Short was a native of Illinois, where he was born at Melvin on May 7, 1905, a son of Burnie J. and Josie Stange Short. His early life was spent in Illinois, where, as a young man, he engaged in farming for eight years.

He was married Dec. 30, 1928 at Paxton, Ill. to Masie J. White, who survives him.

He received his theological training at Moody Bible Institute in Chicago, and after entering the ministry served pastorates at Bradley, Ill., and Keokuk, Ia., before going to Eldora, Ia., in 1949. After serving 12 years at Eldora, he came to Winterset on Aug. 6, 1961.

The Rev. Mr. Short is survived by his wife; a son, James Short of Johnson City, N. Y.; three daughters, Mary Jo of Newhall, Calif., and Martha and Bonita of Winterset; one grandson; a brother, John Short of Paxton, Ill.; and four sisters, Mrs. McKinley Koehler of Melvin, Ill., Mrs. Leo Kitzman of Loda, Ill., Mrs. Paul Crowley of Denver, Colo., and Mrs. William Damato of Sherman Oaks, Calif.

Funeral services were held Saturday from his church, Grace Baptist of Winterset, conducted by the Rev. A. D. Mohr of Ankeny and the Rev. Donald Bronz of Clear Lake. Burial was made in the Winterset Cemetery.
