Eric Shipman, Des Moines

Eric Michael Shipman, 29, of Des Moines, died Aug. 9, 2004. Funeral services were held Monday, Aug. 16, at Christ Lutheran Church in Des Moines. Burial with military honors, was held at Welty Cemetery in rural Macksburg.

Eric Shipman was born Aug. 30, 1974, in Fort Dodge to Rocky and Linda Shipman. He was a 1992 graduate of East High School in Des Moines. He served in the United States Navy for two years and was a veteran of the Gulf War. Upon his return to Iowa, Eric attended Iowa State University and worked as a central intake specialist for the Polk County Juvenile Detention Center.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Richard and Helen Shipman and Cecil Peterson.

He is survived by his mother and her fiance, Linda Shipman and Jim Stuber, both of Des Moines; his father and stepmother, Rocky and Susie Shipman of Winterset; two brothers, Ryan and Aaron (A. J.) Shipman, both of Des MOines; a sister, Ashley Shipman of Cedar Rapids; and his grandmother, Mary Peterson of Fort Dodge.

Memorial contributions in Eric's memory, may be directed to the Polk County Juvenile Detention Center, in care of Polk County Community, Family and Youth Services.

Funeral arrangements were handled by Hamilton's Funeral Home in Des Moines.
