Carlon A. Stannard

Carlon A., son of Asa and Cynthia Cook Stannard, was born in New York state, October 19, 1854, and passed away at Yankton, South Dakota, July 11, 1930, aged 75 years.

The family came to Butler county, Iowa, by ox team when Carlon was only 6 months old. His boyhood was spent on the farm there and after he grew to manhood he made his home with his father and mother. He never married and brought his father and mother to Madison county, Iowa, 27 years ago, to make their home on a farm near Blair Chapel. After a few years his parents passed away and he boarded with his neighbors and cared for the farm.

Because of failing health, four years ago he went to Aberdeen, South Dakota, to make his home with his sisters.

Carlon united with the Christian church early in life and remained an active and faithful member, ever taking delight in the Lord’s services. After coming to Madison county, he was for a number of years Sunday school superintendent at Blair Chapel and took an active part in their church work.

He had been in failing health since leaving the farm and for the past few weeks had been in the Yankton hospital.

He leaves five sisters: Mrs. Miriam C. Daily, of Shellrock; Mrs. Calista Soash of Steamboat Springs, Colorado; Mrs. Melissa Soash, of Brownsdale, Minnesota; Mrs. Lydia Bartlett and Mrs. Ida Tippy, of Aberdeen, South Dakota, and one brother, Phares Stannard, of Janesville.
