George W. Ferguson

George Washington Ferguson, son of Louis and Rachel Ferguson, was born June 11, 1848, at Petersburg, Illinois, and departed this life at the family home in Barney, Iowa, July 3, 1930, aged 83 years and 22 days.

He came to Iowa in 1867 and lived practically all his life in Madison county, particularly at Barney. On October 19, 1871, he was united in marriage to Annie Wheeler. To this union six children were born, two of whom, Cynthia and Lena, died in infancy. The surviving children are: Edwin B. Ferguson, of Spencer; William Tilden Ferguson, of Montrose, Colorado; Amos Smith Ferguson of Chicago, Illinois, and Mrs. Amy McGriff, of Monroe. These, with his wife, eight grandchildren, and six great grandchildren are left to mourn his loss.

The deceased served for a time during the Civil war as a member of Company K, 115th Illinois Infantry. Mr. Ferguson was converted about five or six years ago and united with the Christian church at Barney. He lived for his home and was always anxious for his loved ones.

Mr. Ferguson was the eleventh child in his father’s home and the last to pass on to the great beyond.

Services were conducted by R. V. Hughes, of Dallas, on Sunday, July 6th, and interment was made in the Barney cemetery.
