Silena Ann Shannon

Silena Ann Hooten was born Feb. 27, 1829 in Madison County, Kentucky. She was the daughter of John Hooten and Susan Watson. She came to Hendricks county, Indiana in infancy.

She was married to Bailey Gentry and moved to Iowa in 1849. To this union three children were born, two of whom died in infancy and John Gentry having lived until a few years ago. After her husband, Bailey Gentry, died, she then married Harrison Newton in 1865. To this union one daughter was born, Mrs. W. E. Hodkinson. Harrison Newton departed this life in 1888 and in 1893 she was again united in marriage to John Shannon, who departed this life some years ago.

She has lived the past three years with her daughter, Mrs. W. E. Hodkinson, 1534 12th St. Des Moines at whose home she passed away April 10, 1918 at the great age of 89 years, one month and 13 days.

Funeral services were held in Winterset Friday morning at 11 o'clock in the Church of Christ with Rev. A. D. Mann of the Christian church conducting, in the absence of the pastor Rev. Burton.
