Mrs. Thomas Egan

Anna Elizabeth Loftus was born March 4, 1864, and passed away at her home in Winterset, New Year’s afternoon, 1929, aged 65 years, 9 months and 27 days. Her birthplace was near Churchville, Warren county.

She was united in marriage to Thomas E. Egan, April 16, 1889. God blessed their home with seven children.

She leaves to mourn her departure, her loving husband, three sons, Edward, of Gary, Indiana; Thomas of Des Moines, and William, of Bevington, and four daughters, Mrs. Anna Cook, Mrs. Margaret Nevins and Mrs. Katherine O’Brien; of Stuart, and Mrs. Laura Eggleston, of Patterson, and three daughters-in-law. There are ten grandchildren who will have happy memories of a grandmother. Three sisters, Mrs. Maria Gallagher, Mrs. Margaret Hanrahan, of Churchville, and Mrs. John Hanrahan, of Des Moines; two brothers, Mike Loftus, at Churchville, and William Loftus, of Chicago, and many other relatives and friends.

Mrs. Egan was ever thoughtful of the welfare of her family, a king (kind) neighbor, a true friend, a helpful companion and a loving mother.

Having the flu in October, she did not fully gain strength. The day following Christmas, pneumonia developed and every effort was put forth to gain her health, but to no avail.

Funeral services were held at 9:30 a. m. in St. Joseph’s church at Winterset, conducted by the Rev. Luke Plunkett. The pallbearers were six nephews, William and Michael Gallagher, John Cain, John and Frank Hanrahan and William Duffy. She was laid to rest beside her parents in St. Patrick’s cemetery, north of Bevington.
