Wednesday, June 13, 1973Carl Shaffer Dies at 79
Carl Everett Shaffer, a farmer active in Adair, Madison and Union Counties at age 79, died Monday, June 11 at the Madison County Memorial Hospital in Winterset.
Mr. Shaffer was born January 13, 1894 in DeWitt County, Illinois, the son of Arthur and Amy Smith Shaffer. He was married September 25, 1919 in Greenfield to Ima Kramer.
Mr. Shaffer was affiliated with the Penn Avenue Methodist Church of Greenfield and a member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellow Lodge, Macksburg.
Survivors include his wife, Ima Shaffer of rural Lorimor; a daughter, Opal Winship also of rural Lorimor; a granddaughter, Linda Olson of Ellsworth; and three great grandchildren, Rebekah, Michael and Brenda Olson.
Also surviving are three brothers, Claude Shaffer of Fontanelle, John Shaffer of Greenfield and Walter Shaffer of Loveland, Colorado; and two sisters, Merle Frey of Eldora and Lola Smart of Ashton, Illinois.
Mr. Shaffer was preceded in death by three brothers, Howard, Harry and Owen Shaffer.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, June 13 at 1:30 p.m. from the United Methodist Church of Lorimor with burial at the Moon Cemetery in Macksburg.
Rev. Stanley M. Ballard officiated.
