Doyle Emerson Garrett, 85, of Huntington Beach, California, passed on September 9, 2001, in his home, among family and friends.
Doyle was born in St. Charles, Iowa on May 11, 1916, and graduated Parks Air College in St. Louis, Missouri. He worked as a mechanic at American Airlines in Chicago for a year before moving to Lockheed Burbank, where he worked as an engineer for 36 years.
Doyle met his wife, Jeanne, at Lockheed, and they married Valentine's Day of 1942. After leaving Kelly Johnson's Skunk Works, he was transferred to Marietta, Georgia, working on the Hydraulics and other systems for the C41 and C5 cargo planes. Retiring from Lockheed in 1973, Doyle and Jeanne moved back to California, settling in Huntington Beach. After pursuing creative hobbies in stained glass and photography, Doyle worked for Intertek Corporation in Palos Verdes for four years, the last two as goodwill ambassador in Orange and San Diego counties.
He is survived by Jeanne, his wife of almost sixty years; his children, Judy Hatfield, David Garrett and Dennis Garrett; his daughters in law Randi Garrett and Donna Garrett, six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be held Saturday, September 22, 2001 at 10:00 am, at the Huntington Beach Library Seabreeze Church.
