George J. Sexton, 87, of Winterset died of a heart attack May 23, 2002 at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. today (Wednesday, May 29) at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Winterset. Burial was at Glendale Cemetery in Des Moines.
George Sexton was born Jan. 16, 1915, in Mt. Vernon, N. Y., to George Sr. and Dorothy (Greenley) Sexton. He had lived for most of his life in Des Moines, moving to Winterset in 1991. George was retired from the Bradshaw Law Firm in Des Moines as a business accountant. A United States Navy veteran of World War II, he also was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus (4th Degree).
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Joan (Ryan) Sexton; and a sister.
He is survived by four sons, Mark Sexton of Scottsdale, Ariz.; Matthew Sexton of Winterset; Michael Sexton of Novato, Calif., and William Sexton of West Des Moines; a daughter, Georgeanne Wilson of Winterset; a sister, Dorothea Mansfield of Los Angeles, Calif.; 12 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the Ruby Van Meter School in Des Moines or Child Serve Children's Habilitation Center in Johnston.
Funeral arrangements were handled by Dunn's Funeral Home in Des Moines.
