Earlham Echo - June 25, 1953
Earlham, Iowa

OBITUARY

Lora Hadley, eldest child of Charles R. and Tlmeda Hobson Hadley, was born at Mt. Vernon, South Dakota, December 17, 1885, and passed away June 18, 1953, at the age of 67 years and six months.

In childhood she moved with her parents to the Bear Creek neighborhood near Earlham, and later to the town of Earlham for higher educationed advantages. After two years at Penn College, she taught eight years in the rural schools of Dallas county, the last five years in the same school near Van Meter, Iowa.

She was a birthright member of Friends and in her girlhood dedicated her life to her Master.

On June 27, 1916, she was united in marriage with Clinton L. Nellis, a minister of the Gospel. Of this union were born two children.

Lora was a faithful wife and loving mother, forgetful of self, always desiring rather to serve others than to be served. She worked side by side with her husband, never letting personal desires interfere with what she believed to be her duty. She was beloved by those with whom she labored.

Her husband preceded her in death, passing away in March 1946.

On February 3, 1948 she was united in marriage with Clarence Hinshaw, and for five happy years they walked life's way together, living in their farm home near New Providence, Iowa.

About a year ago her health began to fail. At the time of her death she was almost completely an invalid. The day before her passing she was taken to the hospital at Eldora, Iowa. It was there she heard the summons to enter the portals above.

She leaves to mourn her passing the husband; her son, Robert H. Nellis and his wife, Ruby of Udall, Kansas; her daugher, Esther and her husband, Harold G. Deines of Tucson, Arizona; five grandchildren; two step-daughters and their companions, Mildred and Marion Rains, of New Providence, Iowa; and Margaret and Robert Terrell of New Vienna, Ohio; eight step-grandchildren, and two sisters, Amy Hadley and Martha Hadley of Earlham; other relatives and a great number of friends.

Funeral services were held Sunday at 2:30 p.m. June 21, from the Honey Creek Friends church, with the pastor, Guilford Street, in charge, and a short service at the Welch Funeral home in Earlham, with the Friends pastor at Earlham, L. Willard Reynolds, and Orval H. Cox, General Superintendent of Iowa Yearly Meeting in charge. Nora Craven, from Stuart, a schoolmate of Lora at the Old Earlham Academy spoke a few words of tribute to her. Burial was in the Earlham cemetery.
