Funeral Tuesday John Severns

Funeral services for John Severns, 89, of Winterset were held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Collins Funeral Home with Rev. Byron Ayers officiating. Burial was in the Winterset Cemetery. Mr. Severns died Saturday, February 10, at Villa West Care Center.

Mr. Severns was born July 22, 1889 in Trenton, Nebraska, and was the son of Byron and Ida Johnston Severns. On February 26, 1913 he was married to Lucy Pearl McCleary in Madison County. Mr. Severns, who lived here most of his life, was a Methodist and a farmer and carpenter.

Surviving are three daughters, Vernal Addy and Maxine LeCocq, both of Winterset and LaVaun Monroe of Chicago, Ill.; two sisters, Etta Krentz of Sleepeye, Minn. and Olva Jones of Morgan, Minn.; 11 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren, and 1 great great grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and four sisters.
