Earlham Echo - March 12, 1953

OBITUARY

John Neff was born September 17, 1871 on a farm in Madison county, to Isaac and Nancy Neff. He passed away Tuesday, March 3, 1953 at two o'clock p.m. at the Wilden hospital in Des Moines. He was 81 years and five months of age at his passing.

He was united in marriage with Mae Garmier, January 1, 1900. To this union was added three children: Lester, Lois, and Delma.

John had five brothers, one half-brother, and three sisters. Jake, Neil and June, and Howard Payne (half-brother) have preceded him to the heavenly home.

At the age of 18 he was immersed into Christ and continued up to the very last to be faithful to his Christ and Church. He was a charter member of the Earlham Church of Christ and was on the official board for many years, and for the past few years he had been Elder Emeritus.

After his marriage, he and his wife immediately went to farming. From the year 1900 to 1944, they farmed at the place now known as the John Henkle farm. In 1944, retiring from farming he moved into Earlham where he spent the remaining years of his life.

He leaves to mourn his passing--his wife, their three children, Lester of Michigan; Mrs. Bill Berry of Florida; and Mrs. John Henkle of Earlham; his three brothers, Frank, Roy and Bryon and two sisters, Cora and Carrie; three grandchildren, several aunts and uncles, cousins, nephews and nieces, a host of friends and his Minister.

(Burial was made in the Penn Center cemetery)
