JOY SCRIVNER DIES IN CRASH

Mrs. Gene Scrivner of Norwalk, a resident of the St. Charles community most of her life, was killed last Tuesday, Oct. 29, in a head-on collision on Highway 28, about two miles south of Norwalk. She was 39 years of age.

Mrs. Scrivner was alone in her car. She was driving home to Norwalk from St. Charles. Driver of the other car was Gary Duff, 25, of Norwalk. He was in satisfactory condition at a Des Moines hospital at latest report.

Mrs. Scrivner was the former Joy Bell Downs, daughter of Carl and Wilma Kinnard Downs of St. Charles. Her life was spent at St. Charles, with the exception of the last 12 years at Norwalk. She was a graduate of the St. Charles High school.

She was married Oct. 4, 1949, to Gene Scrivner, who survives her.

Mrs. Scrivner was active in the Norwalk Methodist church, being a member of the church board, the church choir and a member of the W.S.C.S. She was a member of the Norwalk Firemen's auxiliary and had been a Girl Scout leader the last five years.

In addition to her husband, she leaves two children, Nancy, aged 16 and Gary, aged 14; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Carl Downs of St. Charles; two brother, Charles and Larry Downs of St. Charles; and a sister, Mrs. Mary Sumner of Des Moines.

Funeral services were held Friday from the St. Charles Methodist church, conducted by the Rev. James Louk. Burial was made in the St. Charles cemetery.
