Death of Mrs. Nancy Downs

St. Charles. May 7. Special – Nancy Elizabeth Downs was born in St. Charles, August 29, 1861, and was married to J. M. (Joseph Marion) Sherfey, March 30, 1880. To this union five children were born, of which three preceded her in death.

She spent most of her life in the vicinity of St. Charles. They moved to Fort Des Moines in 1915. She had been in poor health for a number of years, and died in the Broadlawns hospital, in Des Moines, Tuesday, April 30, 1929, aged 67 years, 8 months and 1 day.

She leaves her husband and one daughter, Mrs. Fred Fulton, of Norwalk, California, one son, Floyd Sherfey, of Nora Springs, 14 grandchildren and one great grandchild; one sister, Mrs. Jane Hollingsworth, of Kearney, Nebraska, and six brothers, Alf, Jim, Frank, Cash and Walter Downs, of St. Charles, and Charles Downs of Butler Missouri.

Funeral services were held here in the Church of Christ, last Thursday, conducted by the Rev. J. Owen Smith, of Fort Des Moines, and her remains were laid to rest in the St. Charles cemetery, by the side of her sister, Mary, who preceded her in death several years ago. Six of her nephews were pall bearers.
