PERU RESIDENT DIES AT 89 YEARS

Mrs. Harriette Emma Nichols, one of Peru's oldest residents, died at her home here Wednesday afternoon, March 12th. Mrs. Nichols, who had been failing in health for about three years, had been helpless since she had fallen and broken her hip, ten days previously. She was 89 years old.

Mrs. Nichols was the former Harriett Hogue. She was born July 4, 1862, on a farm west of Peru. On April 9, 1882, she was married to John K. Nichols, who preceded her in death.

Funeral services were held at the Peru Methodist church Friday afternoon, March 14th, conducted by Rev. Ray Harness. Burial was at Peru cemetery.

Mrs. Nichols is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Zella McCaughey of Carlisle and five sons, Robert, Earnest, Elijah and Al of Peru; and George of Witchita, Kansas; as well as a number of grandchildren and great grandchildren.
