Services for Jack A. Sayre, 65, of Davenport, retired director of rates for Iowa-Illinois Gas and Electric Co. and a former executive of Iowa Power and Light Co., will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Hill and Fredericks Funeral Home there. A graveside service will be at 2:30 p.m. Thursday in St. Charles.
Mr. Sayre, who had been retired since June, died of a heart attack at his home Sunday. He had been with Iowa-Illinois since 1965. Before that he was with Iowa Power in Des Moines from 1937 until 1963. He was a vice president at Iowa Power when he left that company.
Born in St. Charles, Mr. Sayre received bachelor's and master's degrees in electrical engineering from the University of Iowa at Iowa City. He was a registered professional engineer, past president of the Iowa Engineering Society and the Des Moines Engineering Club and a member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineering.
In Des Moines, Mr. Sayre had been a member of the Masons, the Consistory and the Za-Ga-Zig Shrine and First Methodist Church. In Davenport he was a member of St. John's Methodist Church.
Surviving are his wife, Catharine; a son, Donald of Seattle, Wash.; two daughters, Ellen Taylor of Des Moines and Jane Brewer of Muscatine; a brother, Rex of Davenport and four grandchildren.
The family suggests any memorial contributions be made to the charity of the donor's choice or St. John's Methodist Church in Davenport.
