Mary Saylor, Stuart

Funeral services were held Tuesday, Feb. 9, at Bickford-Murray Funeral Home in Greenfield for Mary Fonda Saylor, who died at Stuart Community Care Center on Feb. 5. She was 92 years old.

Born Feb. 3, 1890 near Winterset, she was the daughter of Robert and Henrietta Clark Thompson.

She attended Madison County schools and on Feb. 6, 1907 married Joseph Saylor in Liberal, Ks. Nine children were born to the union.

After retiring from farming in 1952, the couple moved to Stuart where Mrs. Saylor ran a small grocery store.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; a son, Glen and a daughter, Dorothy; and two grandchildren.

Surviving are seven children; Marie Howard and Fannie Doyle of Harrison, Neb., Mrs. Sarah Funke of Winterset, Maxine McGinnis of Stuart, Dale Saylor of Lakewood, William Saylor of Golden, Co., and Marion Saylor of Des Moines; 17 grandchildren; 32 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Burial was at Greenfield Cemetery.

Mary Fonda Saylor, daughter of Henrietta Clark and Robert Thompson, was born February 3, 1890 near Winterset, Iowa, and passed away February 5, 1982 at the Community Care Center, Stuart, Iowa, at the age of 92 years and two days.

She attended school in Madison County.

On February 6, 1907, she married Joseph Sanford Saylor, of Liberal, Kansas. While living in Liberal, Kansas, two children were born. They retired in 1952 and moved to Stuart where Mary Fonda ran a small grocery store.

Mary Fonda was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph, oldest son, Glen, and second daughter, Dorothy, and two grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by sons-in-law, Virgil Howard, Tom Doyle, and Earl Stewart and daughter-in-law, Mary Saylor.

Mary Fonda is survived by seven children: Marie C. Howard and Fannie Doyle of Harrison, Nebraska; Mrs. Sarah C. Funke and her husband, Ernest of Winterset, Iowa, Maxine McGinnis and her husband, William F. of Stuart, Iowa, Dale S. Saylor and his wife, Alice (Trudy) of Lakewood, Iowa, William H. Saylor and his wife, Doris June of Golden, Colorado, and Marion J. Saylor and his wife, Beverly of Des Moines, Iowa; 17 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

Mary Fonda was a loving and warm person who dearly loved and cared very much for her family and friends. She will be greatly missed by all who came to know her.

Funeral services were conducted February 9, 1982 at the Bickord-Murray Funeral Home, Greenfield, Iowa, with the Rev. George Thurman officiating. Vocal selections were rendered by Mr. and Mrs. Paul Bickford accompanied by Mrs. Alice Hogan, organist. Casket bearers were Danny Mills, Chris Saylor, Rodney Saylor, Bill Saylor, Jim McGinnis, Tom Bingaman, and Francis McGinnis. Interment was in Greenfield Cemetery, Greenfield, Iowa.
