William Givan, long-time resident of Madison county, died last Wednesday, Feb. 13, at the Horton Rest home near Winterset. He was 86 years of age.

Mr. Givan was born near Cork, Ireland, on March 3, 1865, a son of Henry and Anna Givan. With his parents, he came to the United States when he was 3 years old. They settled in Wayne county, and his early life was spent there.

He was married Oct. 16, 1888 to Carrie Whitworth. They were the parents of four children, one daughter dying in infancy. His wife died in 1930.

He had lived on a farm in Jackson township, near Webster, until four years ago, when he moved to Winterset. His health had been failing since that time.

Surviving are his daughters, Mrs. Nena Eyerly and Mrs. Burdena Roberts; his son, Roscoe Givan, all of Winterset; seven grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; and two sisters, Mrs. Anna Handley of Des Moines and Mrs. Emma Handley of Lorimor.

Funeral services were held last Friday from the Richards funeral home, in charge of the Rev. Glenn Parrott, pastor of the Winterset Methodist church. Burial was made in the Kivett cemetery.
