GUSS A. PONX DIES IN GREENE COUNTY

Guss A. Ponxe, a native of Winterset died Feb. 2 at his home in Greene county, at the age of 75 years.

Mr. Ponxe was born in Winterset August 13, 1876, a son of Albert and Emma Haynes Ponxe. His boyhood was spent in Winterset, but he moved to Des Moines as a young man, and later to Granger. In 1928 he moved to near Cooper, where he had since lived.

He is survived by his wife; five children, Mrs. Fred Spragg of Des Moines, Mrs. Lee Oberkamper of Cooper, Albert Ponxe of Cambridge, Jerome Ponxe of Notarie, Ore., and Guss Ponxe, Jr. of Cooper. He also leaves a sister, Mrs. Minnie Mercer of Winterset.

Funeral services were held at Jefferson, and burial was made in the Franklin township cemetery in Greene county.

Final Rites Held for Guss A. Ponx, 75

Funeral services for Guss A. Ponxs, 75, who died in Franklin Township, Feb. 2, were held at Slininger chapel Feb. 5.

Rev. Fred C. Rowley, pastor of the Methodist churches at Cooper and Bagley, was in charge of the services.

Casket bearers include Lloyd Dowd, Fred Molle, Doyle Shank, George Meinecke, Sr., Delno Taylor and Frank Squares.

Music was provided by Mrs. Darwin P. Moore and Mrs. William Wallace who sang “Going Down the Valley” and “The Old Rugged Cross,” accompanied by Mrs. Dean Barker.

Burial was in the Franklin Township cemetery.

Guss Adolph Ponxs, son of Albert and Emma Haynes Ponxs, was born August 13, 1876 at Winterset, Iowa and passed away February 2, 1952 at his home in Franklin Twp., Greene County, Iowa, at the age of 75 years, 5 months and 19 days.

His boyhood days were spent in Winterset, Iowa, later moving to Des Moines. From there he moved to Granger, Iowa where he lived until 1928 he moved to near Cooper, Iowa where he has since lived.

On July 20, 1892, he was united in marriage to Amanda Phillips. To this union were born five children: Mrs. Fred Spragg of Des Moines, Mrs. Lee Oberkamper of Cooper; Albert of Cambridge, Iowa; Jerome of Netarts, Oregon and Guss Jr. of Cooper.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Carl.

Those surviving are his wife; his five children, seven grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; one half-sister, Mrs. Minnie Mercer of Winterset, Iowa, other relatives and many friends.
