George Floyd Sawyers, Winterset

Services for George Floyd Sawyers, 87, rural Winterset, who died Sept. 5 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines, were held Friday, Sept. 7 at the United Methodist Church with the Rev. Byron Ayers officiating. Burial was at the Winterset Cemetery.

Born in Madison County on Dec. 24, 1896, he was the son of Will and Ettie Pope Sawyers. He lived in Madison County his entire life and was a farmer retiring in 1969. He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Winterset and had been a member of the Webster Methodist Church for 60 years.

Mr. Sawyers married Marie Young on Dec. 21, 1917. She survives along with a half-sister, Zola Bingaman of Earlham.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a half-sister.
