Services Held For Percy R. Sanders

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Friday, October 19 at the St. Charles Methodist Church for Percy Raymond Sanders, a pharmacist in St. Charles for over 50 years. Burial was at the St. Charles Cemetery with Rev. Rolland Towell officiating.

Mr. Sanders died Tuesday, October 16, at Villa West Care Center in Winterset at the age of 80.

Born on August 19, 1899 in Des Moines, he was the son of Jesse and Jennie Price Sanders. He graduated from Guthrie County High School at Panora in 1916 and from Highland Park College in Des Moines in 1921. On May 28, 1924 he was married to Althea Crawford in Wichita, Kan. After working in Des Moines for a year and a half, Mr. Sanders bought the drug store in St. Charles on October 12, 1925.

Mr. Sanders was a charter member of the Masonic Lodge, was a member of the St. Charles Lion's Club and served as School Board Secretary for 29 years.

Surviving are his wife Althea; two children, Robert Sanders of St. Charles and Virginia Chandler of San Rafael, Calif.; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren, and two sisters, Beatrice Allen of Kansas City, Kan., and Faye Towne of Durango, Colo.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother and a sister.
