CANDACE RUTH DIED SATURDAY

Resident of Madison County Since 1900 Was 85 Years of Age

Mrs. Candace Ruth, a resident of Madison county since 1900, died at her home in Winterset, Saturday, Feb. 2 at the age of 85 years.

Mrs. Ruth was a native of Indiana, where she was born Jan. 31, 1867, in Jackson county. She was the former Candace Lucia Howell, daughter of John and Nancy Howell. Her early life was spent in Indiana, and she was married there Oct. 31, 1888, to John Cooter. They came to Madison county in 1900.

Mr. and Mrs. Cooter were the parents of three daughters, one of whom died in childhood. Mr. Cooter died in 1904.

On Dec. 25, 1906, Mrs. Cooter was married to George S. Ruth. They were the parents of two children, one dying in infancy. They lived on a farm in Douglas township until 1919, when they moved into Winterset. Mr. Ruth died in 1925.

She is survived by three children, Mrs. Glenn Foster of Winterset, Mrs. M. E. McDonald of Winterset, and Harrell W. Ruth of Sherman Oaks, Calif.; seven grandchildren; five great grandchildren; and a sister, Mrs. Elmer Stuart of New Virginia.

Funeral services were held from the Anderson Home for Funerals Monday, in charge of the Rev. Glenn Parrott, pastor of the Winterset Methodist church. Burial was made in the Hooten cemetery.
