E. W. MAYER DIED TUESDAY, AGED 76

Funeral Services to be Held Friday for Long-Time Resident

E. W. Mayer, well known farmer living west of Winterset for many years, died at his home Tuesday, Jan. 22, after an extended period of failing health. He had undergone a major operation on Oct. 23.

Mr. Mayer was 76 years of age. He was a native of Adair county, where he was born in Grand River township on May 22, 1875. He came to Madison county about 31 years ago, and became one of this community's most prosperous farmers.

Surviving are his wife, who was the former Lyda S. Ross; and two children, Harold Mayer of Winterset and Mrs. Nellie Shaw of Calif. He also leaves two grandchildren; and a sister, Mrs. Carolyn Holley of Des Moines.

Funeral services had not been completed as the Madisonian went to press, but they will be held Friday from the Richards funeral home. Burial will be made in the Winterset cemetery.
