Services for Kenneth J. Ruth, 77, former operator of the Pitzer Machine Shop, who died Jan. 14 at the Adair County Memorial Hospital, were held at the Steen Funeral Home in Greenfield with the Rev. William E. Olmstead officiating. Burial was at the Pitzer Cemetery.
Mr. Ruth was the son of C. B. "Ted" and Mary Magdalene Ruth and was born March 5, 1910 in Adair County. He spent his early years in Adair County before moving to Cedar Falls, where he met Mabel Creighton. They were married Nov. 5, 1929 in Greenfield and had a daughter, Tharon.
In 1938 they returned to Madison County and opened the machine shop, which he owned and operated until his retirement in 1985. He was an avid sportsman, gunsmith, antique airplane enthusiast and Indian motorcyclist until forced to retire because of failing eyesight.
Mr. Ruth was a lifetime member of the National Rifleman's Association, a past board member of the Winterset airport authority, a member of the Southwest Region Blacksmith and Welders Association and the Antique Motorcycle Association.
Survivors include his wife of Greenfield; daughter, Tharon Dahlgren and husband Leonard of Lincoln, Neb.; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a brother, Robert L. Ruth of Hot Sulphur Springs, Colo.
He was preceded in death by his parents and four brothers.
