LAST RITES SUNDAY FOR JOHN BUCHANAN

St. Charles--Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon, Oct. 28 at the United Presbyterian church in St. Charles for John Buchanan.

Mr. Buchanan died at the Grayson Nursing home in Des Moines Wednesday, Oct. 24 at the age of 68 years. He had been a life-long resident of the St. Charles community, following the vocation of farming.

He graduated from the St. Charles school, after which he worked in a general store there until 1916, when he returned to the farm four miles northwest of St. Charles where he had been born. There he lived until 1945, when he retired and moved to St. Charles.

He was married March 5, 1907, to Kate Houston of St. Charles. Her death occurred in 1946.

Mr. Buchanan was a member of the St. Charles United Presbyterian church. He served as township trustee, and was active in the affairs of his community over a long period of years.

Surviving are a daughter, Lucile Buchanan of Mason City; two brothers, C. R. Buchanan of Truro and C. M. Buchanan of Des Moines; and five sisters, Mrs. L. B. Sayre of Winterset, Mrs. J. H. Anderson and Mrs. Ray Mills of St. Charles, and Mrs. Hazel Summer and Mrs. Ancil Dawson of Des Moines.

Services were held Sunday from the St. Charles U. P. church, in charge of the pastor, the Rev. F. R. McLean, and the Rev. S. C. Picken of Winterset. Burial was made in the St. Charles cemetery.
