Mrs. John H. Moore, a resident of Madison county since 1870, died Tuesday, Oct. 24th, 1922.
She was married in 1873 to John H. Moore, a Civil War veteran, and raised a large family.
Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon and interment made at the Hooten cemetery.

Melissa A. Moore, wife of John Moore, was born in Oswego county, New York, February 4 1839 and died at her home on East Washington street October 24 at the age of 83 years. Funeral services were held from the home Wednesday at two o'clock. Interment was made in the Hooten cemetery.

Melissa Reynolds was born in Richland, Oswego county, New York February 4, 1839 and died at her home in Winterset, October 24, 1922.
She grew to womanhood in New York and was married to Burton White at Adams, New York on August 19, 1851. Six children were born to this union and their father died in the service of his country at the Columbia hospital, Washington, D. C. in 1863.
Mrs. White moved with the children to Madison county, Iowa in 1870 and was married to John H. Moore in 1873. Mr. Moore was a widower with nine children, so she mothered a family of fifteen children. Later two other children were born who died in infancy.
Mrs. Moore was a very active, hard-working woman, a good wife and a devoted mother. She became a member of the Methodist church when a girl in New York.
She leaves to mourn her loss her husband and four children, Loftus White, of Winterset; Mrs. Florence Weaver and Mrs. Emma Cooper, of Patterson; and Mrs. Elenora Moore, of California; one daughter having died in 1904 and her son, Edward White in 1896. Besides these she leaves many grandchildren and great-grandchildren and a host of friends.
Funeral services were held at the home, October 25th, Rev. Geo. D. Rogers officiating.
