DANIEL S. MARTIN

Daniel S. Martin was born at Lancaster, Pa., June 20, 1837, and died at his home in Des Moines, Nov. 28, 1913, age 76 years, 5 months and 8 days.

On June 9, 1861, at Covington, Ohio, he was united in marriage to Mary M. DeVault, who departed this life Dec. 30, 1909. To this union, were born eight children: Cora A. Darnall, Lucian E. Martin, Andrew Z. Martin, Mattie J. Martin, John D. Martin, Marretta R. Gordon, Lillian A. Lull and Chas. F. Martin. Of these Mattie and Lucian, have preceded their parents to the better world. Mr. Martin had twenty grandchildren living and seven great grandchildren.

He also leaves to mourn their loss, one brother in Kansas and two sisters in Iowa. Only one of these, Mrs. Fahnestock was able to be present.

Mr. Martin united with the Christian church at Covington, Ohio, early in life and placed his membership with the Christian church at Winterset, when he came here, and was a deacon in the church for a number of years. He moved to Des Moines in 1910, and there united with the Christian church.

On April 4, 1911, he was again united in marriage to Mrs. Rebecca Shafer, who survives him. Mr. Martin enlisted in the service of his country during the war of the rebellion having enlisted in the 194th Ohio regiment.

On last Sunday at three p.m., a short funeral service was held at his home, conducted by Rev. E. E. Bennett, in the presence of his many friends of that city. The remains were brought here on Monday and the regular funeral services were held at the Christian church, conducted by Rev. D. M. Helfensein of Des Moines.

April 4, 1911 he was again married to Mrs. Rebecca Shafer, who still survives him.

Mr. Martin united with the Christian church at Covington, Ohio, early in life and place his membership with the Christian church at Winterset when coming to this state and was a deacon in the church for a number of years. He moved to Des Moines in 1910 and later united with the Christian church there. He had a deep interest in the church and lived a devoted Christian.

Mr. Martin enlisted in the service of his country during the war of the rebellion having enlisted with an Ohio regiment.

He passed quietly to the great beyond in the faith of the Master whom he served, having often stated that he was ready to go.

Last Sunday at 3 p.m. a short funeral service was conducted at his home by Rev. E. E. Bennett in the presence of his many friends of that city. The remains were brought here Monday and the regular funeral services were held at the Christian church conducted by Rev. D. M. Helfenstein of Des Moines.
