Mrs. Howard was 69 years of age. She was born at Ogden on Sept. 6, 1882, a daughter of Rev. and Mrs. R. L. Chapman. Her early life was spent in various Iowa towns where her father held pastorates, and as a young woman she lived in Winterset. She was married here on March 12, 1903, to Ora P. Howard. They made their home here for about 19 years. They later lived near Cedar Falls for many years, where she was active in her church, and in the Farm Bureau. She was also a member of the Woman's Relief corps and Eastern Star. Her husband died last March, and in recent months she had been living at Madrid.
She is survived by her son, Lewis C. Howard of Cedar Falls; a daughter, Mrs. Leonard Gashel of Chicago; five grandchildren; a foster son, Robert Hostetler of the U.S. Marines; and three nieces, Mrs. Charles Mills of Winterset, Mrs. Hugh Steele of Mt. Ayr and Mrs. Beulah Munger of Maloy.
