Former School Teacher Had Been Truro Resident for Past Year
Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon from the Christian church in Truro for Stella Burd, a long-time school teacher in Iowa and Missouri.
Miss Burd died Sunday at the Madison County Memorial hospital in Winterset. She was 63 years of age.
The daughter of Willard R. and Martha Ellen Burd, she was born near Paxton, Neb., on Feb. 2, 1888.
She united with the Oak Run Christian church in 1910, during the pastorate of the Rev. Roy Helfinstein. Miss Burd later transferred her membership to the Christian church in Truro.
She was a teacher in the public schools for years, teaching in Iowa and Missouri. She retired from teaching to care for her aged mother, who was an invalid for nine years.
Following her mother's death, she moved to Winterset where she lived one year, then moving to Truro.
On July 31 of this year, she entered the local hospital, and was a patient there until the time of her death.
Surviving are her sister, Mabel Mease of Truro; one brother, Clarence Burd of Ontario, Oregon; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, and a brother, Alden.
Officiating at the services Tuesday afternoon was the Rev. B. F. Hamilton. Burial was Wednesday at Lenius, Mo.
