Mrs. Sam Powell, former Winterset and Madison county resident, died at her home in Clarinda last Thursday, Aug. 16 at the age of 74 years. Mrs. Powell fell and broke her hip two weeks prior and complications developed causing her death.
Mrs. Powell was the former Nettie R. Ogburn, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Merrit Ogburn. She was born in this county Nov. 2, 1876 and continued to reside here until the family moved to Clarinda four years ago. She united with the Methodist church in Peru a number of years ago.
On December 18, 1895, she was married to Sam Powell. They were the parents of three children. Mr. Powell and two of the children survive: Mrs. Leonard Jorgenson of Clarinda and Mrs. Bert Drees of Stanzel. The son died at the age of 16 years. She also leaves a sister, Mrs. Elva Chaffee of Yokima, Washington.
Funeral services were held in Clarinda Saturday and the body was brought in this county where the Rev. Greenwood, pastor of the Clarinda Methodist church, conducted brief burial services at the Peru cemetery Saturday afternoon.
The relatives coming here for the services were Mr. Powell and Mr. and Mrs. Jorgenson of Clarinda, James Jorgenson of Akron, O., and Mr. and Mrs. Bert Drees of Stanzel.
