MRS. LILLIE COURTNEY DIED HERE THURSDAY

Native of Illinois, Lived in Madison County Past 48 Years

Mrs. Lillie M. Courtney, a resident of Madison county for the last 48 years, died Thursday, Aug. 16 at the Memorial hospital in Winterset. She was 73 years of age.

Mrs. Courtney was born in Madison county, Illinois on May 29, 1878, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Jones. Her early childhood was spent in Illinois, and later she moved to DeWitt, Mo., where she was married to Samuel Tolley. They came to this community 48 years ago.

By her marriage to Mr. Tolley, she was the mother of two sons and five daughters. One son and one daughter preceded her in death. The husband and father died in 1936. Several years later she was married to Earl Courtney.

Surviving are one son, Earl Tolley of Macksburg; four daughters, Mrs. Pearl Nelson of Des Moines, Mrs. Ethel Green of Menlo, Mrs. Opal Pew of Salina, Kan., and Mrs. Lois Ford of Des Moines; 10 grandchildren; four brothers, Archibald and Cliff Jones of Stuart, Jacob Jones of Lorimor, and Charley Jones of Winterset; and two sisters, Mrs. Jessie Loehr of Walla Walla, Wash., and Anna Wood of Sacramento, Calif.

Funeral services were held Sunday from the Richards Funeral home, in charge of the Rev. Edward Rapp, pastor of the Winterset Baptist church. Burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.
