Gladys Rice, Winterset

Gladys Rice, 102, of Winterset, died Aug. 31, 1995 at her home. Funeral services were Sept. 4 at the Greenfield United Methodist Church. The Rev. Steve Koch officiated the services and burial was at the Greenfield Cemetery.

She was born in Adair County on Nov. 7, 1892 to John and Sarah (Drake) Garrett. She married Arthur Roberts of Feb. 12, 1914. She later married Ray Rice on Feb. 10, 1973. She was a teacher in Adair and Madison County. She had lived in Adair and Madison County her entire life.

She was preceded in death by both husbands; her parents; two sisters; one grandson; and one son-in-law.

Surviving relatives include on son, John Roberts and wife Mildred of Grand Island, N.Y.; one daughter, Lucille Truckenbrod of Winterset; and three step-children, Audra Rice and wife Maizie, and Maxine Herrick and husband Gerald, all of Greenfield, and Russell Rice of Guthrie Center; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
