Earl Arthur Shackelford, 83, of Leon, died Nov. 19, 1994 at the Decatur County Hospital in Leon. Graveside services will be Nov. 25 at 11 a.m. at the Garden Grove Cemetery in Garden Grove. Pastor David R. Christner of Humeston Baptist Church will officiate.
He was born in Des Moines on Sept. 3, 1911 to Clyde Arthur and Rachel (Congdon) Shackelford. He was married to Beulah Iona Black in Waterloo in 1933. He was a welder and he had taught Sunday school at Patterson. He also served as Mayor of Patterson where he had been a resident for 10 years.
He was preceded in death by one grandson, and one great-grandson.
Surviving relatives include his wife; one daughter, Earline A. Thornberg and husband Lester of Garden Grove; three sons, Clyde E. Shackelford and wife Marjorie of Seoul, South Korea, John B. Shackelford and wife Barbara of Port Saint Lucie, Fl., and Stephen R. Shackelford and wife Judy of Palm Beach Gardens, Fl.; 13 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
