CHARLES NEWERF RITES THURSDAY

Well Known As Musician in Past Years, Was 79 Years of Age

Charles A. Newerf, a well known Winterset resident most of his life, died Monday, July 2, at his home in Winterset. He was 79 years of age.

Mr. Newerf was widely known as a professional band musician for many years, starting when he was 18 years of age. He traveled widely as a member of famous circus bands, including Ringling Brothers and Yankee Robinson.

Mr. Newerf was born at Pella July 22, 1871, and came to Madison county with his parents as a child. He was married at Adel on May 28, 1928, to Pearl Darnell, who survives him.

He had long been an active member of the Winterset Methodist church.

In addition to his wife, he leaves a brother, Fred Newerf of Des Moines; and three sisters, Mrs. Hattie Allgeyer and Mrs. Jennie Handel of Winterset, and Mrs. Carrie Williams of Marshalltown.

Funeral services were held this Thursday from the Winterset Methodist church, in charge of the pastor, the Rev. Glenn Parrott. Burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.
