FORMER RESIDENT DIES IN CALIFORNIA

Mrs. George Major Was 97 Years Old at Time of Her Death

Word has been received here of the death at her home in Arcadia, Calif., of Mrs. George Major, a former Madison county resident. She died March 7th.

Mrs. Major was 97 years of age at her death. She was a native of Pennsylvania, where she was born May 26, 1853, but when she was a small child she came with her parents to Benton county, Iowa. They later moved to near Orilla in Warren county, where her early life was spent.

She was married to George F. Major of Madison county, and they lived in this county for many years. In 1895, they moved to California, where she had since lived.

Mrs. Major was a sister of Martin Knouf of Norwalk. She is survived by four daughters and three sons.

Funeral services and burial were held at Arcadia.
