November 16, 1918LEWIS P. ROGERS
A double sacrifice has been the portion of Mrs Lillia A. Rogers in the giving of two sons to her country's service.
On Saturday evening, while preparing supper, Mrs. Rogers received official notification of the death of her son, Lieut, Lewis P. Rogers, in action on Sept. 27th, 1918 in France.
Lieut. Rogers was commissioned second lieutenant at Fort Snelling, then went to Camp Logan, Houston. On his arrival in France, May 20, he was made first lieutenant, his unit being Co. A, 124 Machine Gun battalion. He was a few days short of being twenty three years old.
His death in the pursuit of duty has brought overwhelming sorrow to this county in a two fold measure. First, that this brave, upright and Christian young soldier has fallen as the victim in warfare against the Hun and second, that the stricken mother, in the midst of grief for her younger son, has now to bear the crushing blow that has bereft her of her elder son.
Her daughter, Mrs. Thomas Jones of Rolfe, arrived Sunday to comfort her mother.
