Effie Elsie Cameron, eldest daughter of Benjamin F. and Martha Fry, was born in Madison county, Iowa, October 26, 1871, and departed this life August 10, 1951 at the age of 79 years, nine months and 15 days. She had been in poor health the past few years and the past three weeks had been in the Mercy hospital in Des Moines.
At the age of seven she moved with her parents to Adair county, Iowa, where she lived until the time of her marriage to Everett Compton, February 18, 1891. To this union was born two children, Royal Glen and a little son who died in infancy. This union was broken in 1910.
On June 26, 1916 she was married to James Cameron of Des Moines. He preceded her in deth in October, 1944.
From an early age she attended the Methodist church. She was a member of the Rebekahs, The Royal Neighbors and Pythian Sisters. She enjoyed her affiliations and made many lasting friendships.
Effie spent many happy hours doing the work she loved so well, sewing and helping others.
She leaves to mourn her passing one son, Royal of Winterset; two step-sons: Ernest of Los Angeles, California and Ralph of Augusta, Georgia. Seven grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Six sisters: Mrs. Mary Holmes, Mrs. Myrtle Wise and Mrs. Sadie Slavens of Stuart; Mrs. Belle Walton of Adel; Mrs. Carrie Welch of Eagle Rock, California and Mrs. Ida Johnson of Des Moines; and one brother, Frank Fry of Des Moines, a host of nieces and nephews, friends and neighbors.
The last few years she shared her home with her sister, Ida, who was a faithful companion during her long illness.
