Elmer Rogers Services Held

Funeral services for Elmer W. Rogers were held Monday, December 29 at 2 p.m. at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Iowa City. Burial was at the Oakhill Cemetery, Coralville, Iowa.

Elmer W. Rogers was born May 19, 1912 in Grand River Township, Madison County. He died at his home at Oakdale on December 25.

He was the oldest of a family of eight born to Charles and Mae Belle Hatfield Rogers. His younger years were spent in Madison County, where he attended school and worked as a farm hand. In the spring of 1938, he developed tuberculosis and entered the Oakdale T. B. Sanitarium, where he spent eighteen years. After his discharge, he spent one year at Denver, Colorado learning the watch repairing trade.

On September 22, 1957, he was united in marriage to Freda Elizabeth Dunham. They returned to Oakdale to work as nurses aides. His wife died in September.

He leaves one step daughter, Mrs. Janet Homes of Iowa City, two stepsons, Gerald of Iowa City and James of Webster City; two brothers, Clair of Macksburg and Leslie of Tacoma, Washington; four sisters, Mrs. Ethel Jeffs of Union, Missouri, Mrs. Fern Davis of St. James, Missouri, Mrs. Aletha Miller of Denver, Colorado and Mrs. Esther Rusk of Aurora, Colorado; also 12 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

His parents and one brother, Rilley preceded him in death.
