Richard Darrell Roby, 64, of Truro, died after a long illness on Sept. 7, 1997 in Aptos, Calif. Funeral services were Sept. 12 at the Santa Cruz Memorial Park Mission Chapel with Pastor Rene Schlaepfer officiating.
He was born in Truro on Sept. 29, 1932 and lived in the area until 1976 when he moved to Calif. where he worked in the circulation department at the Santa Cruz County Sentinel for more than 20 years. In 1960, he won a "Best Circulation Manager" award in Chariton. He attended the Twin Lakes Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister.
Surviving relatives include his wife, Pauline Roby of Aptos, Calif.; two sons, Kevin Roby of Santa Cruz, Calif., and Kirk Roby of Bangkok, Thailand; one daughter, Kimberlee Low of Santa Cruz; two brothers, Paul Roby Jr. of Red Oak and Otis Roby of Truro; three sisters, Betty Williams of Indianola, and three grandchildren.
Memorials may be directed to the family.

Truro native Richard Darrell Roby was born Sept. 29, 1932, in Truro and died at his Aptos, Calif. home on Sept. 7, 1997, after a long illness. He was 64.
Services for Mr. Roby were Sept. 12 at Santa Cruz Memorial Park Mission Chapel in Santa Cruz, Calif.
Mr. Roby had lived in Aptos since 1976. He worked in the circulation department of the Santa Cruz County Sentinel for more than 20 years. Mr. Roby won a “Best Circulation Manager” award in 1960 at Chariton.
Mr. Roby was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan.
He attended Twin Lakes Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Shirley Peppmeier in 1978.
Mr Roby is survived by his wife of 42 years, Pauline Roby of Aptos; two sons, Kevin Roby of Santa Cruz and Kirk Roby of Bangkok, Thailand; a daughter, Kimberlee Low of Santa Cruz; two brothers, Paul Roby of Red Oak and Otis Roby of Truro; three sisters, Betty Williams of Des Moines, Lila Parker of St. Charles and Ann Parker of Indianola; three grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Memorial contributions may be made to the hospice Caring Project of Santa Cruz County, 6851 Soquel Drive, Aptos CA 95003.
