Death of A. E. Roby

Albert E. Roby of Truro, died last Saturday noon, June 28th at his home after a few days of severe illness. Mr. Roby was well known over the county, having lived here all his life and always having taken an active part in community affairs. He was a 32nd degree Mason, a Shriner, a member of the Knights of Pythias and a member of both the Truro band and the Shrine band of Des Moines.

Mr. Roby was fifty-eight years old at the time of his death. He leaves his wife, one son, two brothers and one sister to mourn his death. The funeral services were held on Sunday at the home, and burial was made in the Young cemetery, east of Truro.

Albert Evans Roby was born in Madison county, Iowa June 7, 1866, and departed this life at his home in Truro, Iowa June 21, 1924, age 58 years and 14 days.

In January 1894 he was united in marriage to Miss Effie M. Johnson, who was called to her Eternal Home October 25, 1906. To this union was born one son, William Doyle.

On December 30, 1908 he was again united in marriage to Miss Bessie M. Lawrence. To this union a daughter was born, who died in her infancy.

Mr. Roby gave his heart to Christ in early life uniting with the Christian church at Truro. He was a faithful member until death. Always interested in the church and had an encouraging word for the pastor.

He was a great lover of music, assisted the choir with his musical skill, played in the local band for years, and lately played in the Shrine Band at Des Moines, Iowa.

Mr. Roby was a 32nd degree Mason, a Shriner, and also was a member of the K. P. Lodge.

He had been at Des Moines playing with the Shrine Band. On returning home Sunday, June 15, he was suddenly taken sick and while everything that loving hands or medical skill could do for him he succumbed to the attack and calmly passed to his reward on June 21, 1924.

The entire community is in sympathy with the sorrowing friends. He will be greatly missed. He leaves to mourn his departure, a companion, a son, William Doyle, a grandson, Robert Doyle, two brothers, J. F. and W. E. Roby of Truro, and one sister, Mrs. Cora D. Mitchell, of Chicago, Illinois, besides many relatives and friends.

The funeral services were conducted by the Rev. R. L. Raybourn on Sunday afternoon, June 22, 1924, assisted by the Masonic Lodge at the cemetery who read the Masonic burial service, and the remains laid to rest in the Young cemetery.
