MAJ. WILLIAM HIATT REPORTED KILLED

Had Been Missing in Action in Korean War Since Dec. 29

Maj. William H. Hiatt, native of Winterset, who had been listed as missing in action in Korea since Dec. 29, now has been reported as killed in action, by the U. S. War department.

Major Hiatt had been serving with the U.S. Army Air force in the Korean war. He was senior pilot with a bombardment group, and had more than 5,000 hours flying time.He had participated in 40 bombing missions in Korea.

His plane disappeared from formation while attacking targets in Korea, Dec. 29.

Major Hiatt was a son of Mrs. Catherine Hiatt, of Glendale, Calif. He was born in Winterset. His father, the late E. R. Hiatt, was Madison county engineer for many years, and his mother taught in the Winterset schools. The family moved to California when Major Hiatt was a small boy.

Major Hiatt was a veteran of World War II. He flew 170 missions as a fighter pilot in the European war zone.

He is survived by his mother; his wife; a 4-year-old son and a brother, all living in California.
