Wednesday, June 3, 1965LYLE S. SMITH Dies In Des Moines
Lyle S. Smith, a long-time resident of Madison County and Winterset, died Saturday, May 29,1965, at a Des Moines hospital. He was 65 years of age.
Mr. Smith was born in Madison county on Jan. 21, 1900, a son of George E. and Grace Silverthorne Smith. His life was spent in Madison county until 1950. He engaged in farming here. After moving to Des Moines he served as a custodian in the Des Moines school system.
He was married in 1922 to Mary O. Rogers. Her death occurred in 1947. He was married in 1957 to Amy Daniels, who survives him.
In addition to his wife, he leaves four daughters, Mrs. Betty Jones of Elkhart, Mrs. Bernice Spence of Estherville, Mrs. Patricia Kuhns of Des Moines, and Mrs. Lyla Tidrick of Cedar Falls; two stepsons, Robert and William Sheets of Des Moines; 11 grandchildren; four great grandchildren; and two brothers, Karl Smith of Winterset and Gerald Smith of Des Moines.
Funeral services were held Tuesday from the Wilson Funeral home, conducted by the Rev. Tom Foglesong of Des Moines. Burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.
