LYLE H. SMITH Dies AT 72

Lyle H. Smith, a former well-known farmer in the Macksburg area, died Sunday, Sept. 25, 1977, at his home in Winterset.

Funeral services for Mr. Smith were held this Wednesday, Sept. 28, at 1:30 p.m. from the Collins Funeral Home here. He was 72 years of age.

A son of Lonnie E. and Jennie M. (Webster) Smith, he was born Feb. 23, 1905 in Dallas County, Iowa. He moved to Madison county 48 years ago, farming in Grand River township. He also was an electrician.

He was married to Hazel E. Rogers on Aug. 27, 1928 at Des Moines. They moved to Winterset in 1973.

Mr. Smith was a long-time ASCS worker, a bond drive organizer during World war II, and active in other community affairs.

He is survived by his wife, Hazel; two sons, C. Dwight Smith of Bell, California and Murray L. Smith of Ackley, Iowa; three grandchildren; two brothers, Rollin O. Smith of Tucson, Arizona and Ernest W. Smith of Durand, Wisconsin.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and one brother, Lester.

Officiating at the funeral were Rev. Byron Ayers and Dr. Paul Hann. Burial was in the Winterset Cemetery.
