KENNETH WARD SMITH, Corning

Services for Kenneth Ward Smith, 84, who died May 25, 1985, at the Colonial Manor at Corning where he resided, were held Wednesday, May 29, at the Hill of Zion Church, Orient, with the Rev. Michael Metz officiating. Burial was at the Orient Cemetery.

Born March 13, 1901 at Macksburg, he was the son of Henry Earl and Anna Fern Hilberry Smith. He lived his childhood and early adult years near Macksburg and graduated from high school there in 1919. He was a member of the Methodist Church.

In September 1921 he was married to Cleo Pearlene Brady. She preceded him in death in 1929. On Oct. 2, 1932, he was married to Leta Cleo James. The couple had two children.

Mr. Smith farmed in Madison and Adair counties and also worked at meat lockers at Cromwell, Massena and Prescott for 26 years. In June 1980 he and his wife moved to Carl, Iowa to live with their daughter and family and they spent the winter months with their son and family. In March 1984 they moved to Westview Apts. in Corning.

Survivors include his wife; his son, James and his wife Martha of Ellston; his daughter Mary Andrews and her husband Carl of Corning; a brother, Clifford Smith of Winterset; five grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; a great-grandchild; and six step great-grandchildren.
