Hazel E. Smith, 88, of Winterset died of congestive heart failure August 30, 1997 at Community Care of America in Winterset. Funeral services were held Sept. 2, 1997 at Collins Funeral Home in Winterset with Pastor Jon Gaul officiating. Burial was at the Winterset Cemetery.
She was born August 28, 1909, in Winterset to Sam and Jennie (Moore) Rogers. She married Lyle Smith on August 27, 1928 in Des Moines. She was a homemaker and a lifetime resident of Madison County, living mostly around the Macksburg area. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Winterset, United Methodist Women, various craft and garden clubs, and was active at the Macksburg Methodist Church. She was also a former Pythian Sister.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two brother; and two sisters.
Surviving relatives include two sons, Charles and wife Delores of Bell, Calif., and Murray and wife Cristal of Colleyville, Texas; one brother, Robert Rogers of Prairie City; one sister, Helen Pattee of Portland, Ore.; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
