JAMES "CAP" SMITH, St. Charles

Funeral services for James "Cap" Smith, 76, were held Tues., April 23 at the St. Charles Parish Church with the Rev. Tom Webster officiating. Mr. Smith died April 20 at his rural home near St. Charles.

A lifetime farmer in Madison County, he was born December 23, 1914 in Scott township in Madison County to Lester and Mabel (Allen) Smith. He attended country schools at Elm Grove. He married Ena Maude Bradshaw February 24, 1938 in Shenandoah. He was a member of the United Methodist Church in St. Charles.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and two brothers.

Survivors include a son, Clair Smith and wife, Helen, of Martensdale; a daughter, Bonnie Kirscher and husband, Marvin, of Osceola; two sisters, Esher Read of Winterset and Edna Honnold and husband, Duane, of Lorimor; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Burial was at St. Charles Cemetery.
