IRA (Bugs) S. SMITH, Booneville

Services for Ira "Bugs" S. Smith, 63, life-time resident of Booneville who died Tuesday, Jan. 18, 1983, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center of cancer, were held Saturday, Jan. 22 at the Booneville United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Dennis Nicholson officiating. Burial was at the Booneville Cemetery.

Except for service in World War II, he lived all his life in the Booneville area. He was a farmer and a rural mail carrier for 27 years.

He was born Oct. 19, 1919, the son of H. R. and Marguerite McNerney Smith. He was married to Dorothy Lathrum at the Little Brown Church in the Vale at Nashua on Sept. 1, 1940.

Survivors include his wife; daughters, Connie Waller of Booneville and Patricia Custer of Lenexa, Kansas; a first cousin, Delores Powers, who was raised in his home; and grandchildren, Chad, Dirk and Amy Waller of Booneville.

He was a member of the Booneville post of the American Legion, the National Rural Letter Carriers Association and the Methodist Church.

IRA S. SMITH

Services for Ira S. "Doc" Smith. 63, of Route 1, Booneville, who died Tuesday of cancer at Iowa Methodist Medical Center, will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Booneville United Methodist Church with burial at the town cemetery there.

Mr. Smith was born in Madison County and lived in the Booneville area most of his life. He was a Postal Service carrier and was a member of the Methodist church and Booneville American Legion.

Survivors include his wife. Dorothy; two daughters, Connie Waller of Booneville and Pat Custer of Lenexa, Kan., and three grandchildren.

Friends may call at the Chamberlain-Fisher Funeral Home In Van Meter.
