FORMER WINTERSET RESIDENT SUCCUMBS

Mrs. D. L. Johnstone Died Jan. 11 in Ashland, Oregon

Mrs. D. L. Johnstone, a resident of Madison county for 24 years, died Jan. 11 at the home of her son in Ashland, Ore. She was 83 years of age.

Mrs. Johnstone was a native of Maryland. She was the former Jennie Brown. At an early age she came with her parents to Jasper county, Iowa, where she lived until after her marriage.

She was married April 27, 1892, to David L. Johnstone. In 1918, the family moved to Winterset. This was her home until 1942, when she moved back to Newton. Three years ago she went to Oregon to be with her son.

Mrs. Johnstone's husband died here in 1936. Surviving are three children, Keith Johnstone and Mrs. J. E. Gindling of Ashland, Ore., and Mrs. Francis Koehler of Winterset. She also leaves five grandchildren; a brother, Matt Brown of Newton; and a sister, Mrs. Vernon French, also of Newton.

Funeral services were scheduled for this Wednesday from the Toland Funeral home at Newton, with burial in the Union cemetery there.
