MRS. O. B. VAN HOSEN OF DES MOINES DIES

Native of Winterset, Left This Community in 1912

Mrs. O. B. Van Hosen, member of a pioneer Winterset family, died Saturday, Dec. 30 at her home in Des Moines after a long illness. She was 65 years of age.

Mrs. Van Hosen was the former Cora Clopton, daughter of Asbury and Mary Clopton. She was born in Winterset March 2, 1885, and her early life was spent in this community.

She was married June 5, 1905, to Orval B. Van Hosen. They lived in Winterset until 1912, when they moved to Des Moines.

Mrs. Van Hosen was active in the G. A. R. auxiliary, serving as state president of the organization in 1947. She was also a member of the Women's Relief corps, Daughters of Union Veterans and Order of Does.

She is survived by her husband; three sons, Clayton, Joe and Hugh Van Hosen, all of Des Moines; two daughters, Mrs. Mary Daniel of Des Moines and Mrs. Betty Gibson of Davenport; a sister, Mrs. Jay Jacobs and a brother, Tom Clopton, both of Lindsay, Calif.; and her nephew, Paul Barrus of Commerce, Tex., whom she reared in her home.

Funeral services were held Sunday from Dunn's Funeral home in Des Moines, in charge of the Rev. Mr. Houser of the Plymouth Congregational church in Des Moines, of which she was a member. Burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.

Mrs. Van Hosen Dies Here at 65

Mrs. O. B. Van Hosen, 65, died Saturday at her home, 5820 Ingersoll ave., after an illness of two years.

Born in Winterset, she had lived in Des Moines since 1912, and was active in the Order of Does and G.A.R. auxiliary units. She was state president of the Ladies of the Grand Army in 1948, and was a member of the Women's Relief corps and Auxiliary No. 8, Sons of Union Veterans.

Surviving are her husband; three sons, C. A., Hugh and Joe, all of Des Moines; two daughters, Mrs. R. W. Daniel of Des Moines and Mrs. P. C. Gibson of Davenport; a sister, Mrs. Jay Jacobs of Lindsay, Cal.; a brother, Tom Clopton of Lindsay; and a nephew, Paul Barrus of Des Moines,

Services will be at 10 a. m. Tuesday at Dunn's funeral home, with burial in Winterset.
